The Zwack company is a historic Hungarian brand known for its iconic herbal liqueur, Unicum. Created in 1790 by Dr. József Zwack, a personal physician to the Emperor, the company initially created Unicum as a digestive tonic. The secret recipe, which combines more than 40 herbs and spices, was passed down through the Zwack family for generations.
The company faced many challenges over the years: World War II, the Soviet occupation of Hungary, nationalisation and finally emigration. However, in 1989, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Zwack family regained control of the brand and its legacy.
Zwack Unicum Plc. is listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange. In addition to Unicum – Hungary’s number 1 brand - the company also produces and distributes a range of premium drinks in the alcoholic beverages category.
Sandor and Izabella Zwack represent the 6th generation at the head of the Zwack family.
