UNICUM RISERVA

Unicum Riserva is doubly unique, because it is aged not once but twice in two very different and special casks: first the originaln Unicum is aged in the largest and oldest cask in the distillery which has been in the cellars for more than eighty years.

Over the decades the wood has acquired a coating of what we call “black honey” which gives Unicum still more depth and character. In the second phase Unicum is aged in oak casks from Tokaj, giving Riserva its uniquely complex character.

What few people know is that this small region called Tokaj, tucked away in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains of north eastern Hungary and bathed by the Tisza and Bodrog rivers, is where botrytis was first discovered in the mid sixteen-hundreds. As a result of the above, Unicum Riserva becomes mellower but at the same time spicy and fruity, with hints of dried apricots and an elusively herbal complex taste.
